I never knew the story behind that image, but Lugz and I used to go to a few of them back in the day. It was a lot of fun.

I remember LAN parties, but I never went to one.  We were supposed to do a LAN party back in 2005-6, but my coworkers decided not to bother after all.  The idea was to have a big game of Civ ...5?  Maybe it was Civ 4?  I don't quite remember, but they gave me a burned copy of the game (the days back before DRM, woooooooow) and I installed it.  To be honest, I wasn't very fond of the game, but I wanted to play at the LAN party anyway.  Years later, I find that my dislike of the 4X game genre extends well beyond Civ.
