Title: The 2018-19 NHL Season Thread
Post by: TheNorm on October 04, 2018, 11:03:04 AM
This, right here, is how I feel every league should announce a suspension going forward. The NHL has been doing this right for a few seasons, back to the days when Brendan Shanahan was in charge of the Department of Player Safety.

After seeing this, Tom Wilson's lucky he didn't get suspended indefinitely because he deserved it. 20 games is not an insignificant number by any stretch and I have no problem saying he deserved more.

Hey thai and Buc, I think this might interest you both a bit:

https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2018/10/02/nhl-is-moving-forward-with-seattle-expansion-bid/

QuoteNEW YORK (AP) — The NHL is moving forward with plans to expand to Seattle.

Commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday the Board of Governors' executive committee recommended proceeding with Seattle's expansion application, with an eye on voting to approve the league's 32nd franchise in December. The recommendation came a few hours after key stakeholders presented their case to the committee and hit it off enough that Seattle could be awarded a team two months from now.

"The notion is have the board vote on expansion," Bettman said. "And assuming, as I think everybody is, that it would be approved – I don't want to be presumptuous of the board's prerogative – but everything seems to be on track."

It was the best possible news that could have come out of the meetings for proponents of the NHL in Seattle. Bettman agreed with Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan that the preference is for the team to begin play in the 2020-21 season, and that's still a very real possibility as long as renovations to KeyArena in downtown Seattle proceed as scheduled.

"I'm very confident we're going to be able to move forward and get what we need from the NHL and the team and stick to the schedule so we have hockey in 2020," Durkan said. "They know we want it in 2020 and (the league would) like to have it in 2020, too, if we get the team."

...and FYI, I would be completely open to seeing the Wings play in Seattle in 2-3 years. :)

I'm absolutely down. Can't wait. Need something that isn't football to occupy my time here once baseball season ends.

I'd accept a basketball team as well. I'm actually mad at myself for not checking out the WNBA Finals here when I had the chance.

Out of the pro leagues, the NHL remains my favorite...IMO hockey is the best sport. And even though my Wings are destined for a bottom 5 finish (fine by me, lose for Hughes), I'll still watch the product.

I would love to see Seattle get an NHL team because I think they deserve one and have deserved one for awhile.

I've only been to 3 hockey games, but yeah, I think it's safe to say it's the best sport to watch live. Basketball can be a little rough depending on your seats but also you can get so close to the action. I've been to 2 NBA games (both in Atlanta, one against the T'Wolves when Garnett was still there, one against Cleveland with Lebron before Miami). The 3 hockey games were almost all Atlanta too, with Thrashers-Capitals one year (Ovechkin!) and Thrashers-Hurricanes another (Kovalchuk!)

Last game I saw was in Carolina, Hurricanes vs Winnipeg Jets. So, yeah, basically all 3 NHL games I've seen have involved Atlanta.

norm, Ive spouted this method of the NHL practice since the Shanny days as well, absolutely agree with you.
Ever since I was a kid and witnessed Gordie Howe and his boys playing for the Aeros at the summit, I was a hockey fan.
When I would ask friends to go to a hockey game when I had 3rd row season tix to the Aeros in the 90's, they would begrudgingly go, but after the game, I never had one that didnt want to come back. Such a great game.
It seems odd, but baseball nd hockey are my top sports

Woof, this Wings team is gonna be tough to watch. Flashes of talent but every mistake gets amplified.

Congratulations to Not Boston for winning the Stanley Cup. :D

Seriously though, the Blues run was impressive...the team was in last place in January (yes, even below teams like the Wings and Hawks who were predicted to suck this season).  :o To end that with the franchise's first Cup? I can respect that.

Added bonus was seeing Bruins shitheel Brad Marchand crying at the end of Game 7. Lol f-ck that guy.
