https://www.cfl.ca/2018/05/19/ticats-confirm-johnny-manziel-signing/

QuoteHAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats confirmed Saturday they have signed quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The news was first revealed hours earlier, when Manziel took to Twitter to announce he's signed a contract with the club.

The team will hold a press conference at Tim Hortons Field at 2:30 p.m. ET, where Manziel will be introduced and will answer questions alongside Head Coach June Jones. The press conference will be streamed live on CFL.ca.

"We're excited to add Johnny Manziel to our roster, particularly getting it done now so that Johnny can join his new teammates and the coaching staff for a full training camp," said June Jones, head coach of the Tiger-Cats. "We feel like we've got an excellent group of quarterbacks, and the addition of Johnny only improves our football team in our pursuit of the ultimate goal, which is to win a Grey Cup Championship."

https://www.playstationtrophies.org/news/news-24043-Burnout-Paradise-HD-Remaster-Spotted-on-Japanese-Retailer-Site.html

QuoteRecent reports are claiming that the popular racing game Burnout Paradise from EA could be getting an HD remaster for PlayStation 4 in Japan later this year similar to previous reports which claimed it'll also be heading to Xbox One this year as well.

According to Gematsu, a Japanese retailer listed 'Burnout Paradise HD Remaster (title tentative)' due to be released on 16th March for 4104 yen which is about £26/$36. In December a similar posting was spotted by Brazillian site Gamepress.br which listed the game for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with the 1st March as its release date.

Although this latest listing only has the game advertised for PlayStation 4 it would come as no surprise if it were to be released on Xbox One as well. EA is yet to comment on these listings so as per usual take this news with just a pinch of salt.

I sure hope that this is true. That game was so much fun, and would be f-ing awesome on the PS4.

Video Gaming General / Are Single Player Games Dead
November 28, 2017, 09:47:05 PM
QuoteIn recent years multiplayer games have been increasingly on the rise at the expense of the traditional single-player campaign. Yesterday, EA's Patrick Söderlund announced that the now defunct Visceral's linear narrative-focused Star Wars action-adventure game is being re-tooled as a "broader experience" with "greater depth and breadth to explore." With BioWare's Anthem following a similar model (arguably to the detriment of Mass Effect Andromeda), you'd be forgiven for thinking that single-player stories are bordering on extinction.

You need only look to games like The Witcher 3, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Persona 5, NiER Automata, Watch Dogs 2 and others to see how well a primarily single-player focused game can still perform in the current market. Linearity is becoming almost something of a dirty word, however, bringing with it certain negative connotations. The Evil Within 2 recently managed to sandwich in some open areas alongside its more linear sequences to some degree of success, while the likes of Uncharted 4 and spin-off The Lost Legacy chucked in large, open environments too.

Full Article Here

AS someone who mainly plays single player games I would say no they're not dead yet but they do seem to be on the decline.

4. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch)

https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/09/18/cfl-bans-full-contact-practices-tackle-football-safety

QuoteThe Canadian Football League has told its nine franchises that, except for training camp in 2018, full-contact practices will be banned through the end of the 2018 season. Players can wear helmets in practice, but no shoulder pads, and tackling in practice will not be allowed. I talked to the CFL commissioner, former offensive lineman Randy Ambrosie, on Friday about how it came about.

MMQB: How'd you make this happen, especially in-season like this?

Ambrosie: It's what I can only describe as a magnificent display of partnership between us and the players union. It will give our players more time to recuperate, and stay on the field. There was another part of this, going from [18 games in] 20 weeks to 21 weeks. Because of our nine-team structure, because not all of our teams have access to their facilities at all times, we have had some tight turnarounds on our games. We have now gone to a 21-week schedule, staying at 18 games. It dramatically improves the time players will have to rest and recuperate. One example this year was Ottawa. The Redblacks had three games in 11 days [a Friday-Wednesday-Monday schedule.] That is just way too much football is too tight a time. There is something magnificent and elegant about simplicity. We wanted to do something fairly immediate and avoid the confusion of tackling too many issues at once. It is going to challenge our coaches, who I believe are world-class. It's going to be different. Coaches begin to wean themselves off padded practices later in the season anyway. We know coaches can go with less, because we've seen that in football now anyway. Coaches will adapt. They will find new training techniques.

MMQB: Have you gotten any pushback from football people over the decision?

Ambrosie: I have not had one of those calls at all. We had our [CFL] Hall of Fame inductions last night, and I spoke to a couple of our coaches. They were positive and polite and constructive. I am aware this may have cost me one or two Thanksgiving dinner invitations, but the reaction has been almost entirely positive. It was a quick decision, and some would argue too quick. But when you're on the doorstep of doing the right thing, quick is good

MMQB: How much are you concerned about the future of football, with all the issues of head trauma and CTE that have surfaced?

Ambrosie: Talking about player safety is not just words to me. It means very much. The [future of football] has been on my mind throughout this. The more we do together to make this game safer, it will inspire confidence that the game can be played at the safest level. ... What I love about the game is it offers the greatest inclusiveness of any game. You can be a gigantic person, super strong, and you can be a small person, super fast, and then in a locker room all these things come together. We need to fight, literally, for the future of football, and we do that by making it safe. I think the battle for the future of the game is one we will win. We're teaching safer tackling. It's gonna take us all pushing it. Change is hard. We all know that. The fraternity of football people, we'll find our way. I'm honored to be part of it.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/08/17/ps4s-system-software-5-00-beta-rolls-out-today-key-features-detailed/

The beta for the PlayStation 4 system's next major system software update 5.00 (codenamed NOBUNAGA) rolls out today for those of you that were selected for the beta program. If you signed up and were chosen, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to download and get started.
Whether you're in the beta program or not, we wanted to give a first look at the features included in this update. We're introducing family on PSN, making it easier to manage your friends, and adding a variety of new features for Broadcast, Notifications, Messages, and much more.

Family on PSN
We're overhauling the current master/sub-account system, and introducing the new "Family on PlayStation Network." This new system will offer a more flexible experience for families on PS4 by making it easier to setup PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings. Below are the new features that will be introduced with family on PSN:

Family Manager, Parent/Guardian
Family on PSN will allow multiple adults to be part of a single family. The Family Manager can promote another adult inside the family to a Parent/Guardian, who can then customize parental control levels of children's accounts.

Individualized Parental Controls
Before this update, the same parental controls were applied to all users on the same console, including adults. But with 5.00, all controls (including game age ratings) can be individually attuned for each child.

Friend List Management
In place of the current 'Favorite Groups' tab, we're adding a new 'Custom Lists' tab within Friends, which allows you to create and edit custom lists of your friends. This makes it easier for you to manage your friends and access specific groups. For example, you can create a custom list of your Destiny teammates and easily send them raid invites.

Broadcast feature updates

Communities
If you own a community, you can now bind your community to your broadcast. When a broadcast is linked to a community, the community button appears on the Live from PlayStation spectator screen. Once a spectator clicks on the community button, they'll be able to jump directly to your community page to check out the details.

PlayStation VR
We've added a new setting in PlayStation VR: Display Message to Spectators and Spectators' Comments. Once this is enabled, spectator comments sent during a broadcast is displayed not only in cinematic mode, but also in VR mode. This makes it much easier for VR broadcasters to keep up on comments and communicate with their viewers.

PlayStation 4 Pro
Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.

Messages Improvements
You've already been able to share your favorite music to Twitter and Facebook via PlayStation Music, but now you'll also be able to share via messages using your PS4. If your friends are on PS4, they can listen to the track right inside the message by booting up Quick Menu, and if they're on their mobile device, they can jump directly to the Spotify app from the PS Messages app to check out the song.

In addition, if you're part of multiple message groups, you can now easily leave several groups at once. Just open up Options in the message list, select Leave, and choose the message groups you want to leave.

Notifications Updates
We've added a new setting that allows you to disable pop-up notifications while you're watching a movie or TV show on your PS4. This setting is off by default, so go to Settings > Notifications to disable notifications and go uninterrupted during your videos.

Furthermore, you now have the option to turn off message previews on your pop-up notifications. If you turn this setting off, the pop-up notification will hide the message senders' online ID and will display a generic user icon and message instead.

Lastly, you'll have the option to change the color of your pop-up notifications to either white (default) or black.

Quick Menu Updates
If you want to keep an eye out on what's happening under Notifications, like the progress of your game downloads/installations or new party invites, you can now access this directly from the Quick Menu so you don't have to step away from your game every time you want to check your notifications.

Also, we've added a 'Leave Party' option in the Quick Menu, so you can easily exit a party and go right back to playing your game.

In addition, now you'll see the system clock in the upper-right corner of the screen when you pop open the Quick Menu.

Virtual Surround Sound on PS VR
PlayStation VR now supports 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound on your headphones when watching Blu-rays and DVDs in Cinematic Mode, making for an even more immersive viewing experience

Improved Tournaments Bracket Viewer
We have a new bracket viewer that shows full tournament brackets for Single Elimination and Double Elimination tournaments on PS4. This makes it easier for you to see the current tournament standings.

New System Language Additions
With this update, we're adding the following system language options on PS4: Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese.

Pro Football / CFL 2017 Discussion
May 30, 2017, 07:37:32 PM
Training camps started last Monday and the first Pre-Season games are next week. With the regular season kicking off on June 15.
The full schedule can be found here https://www.cfl.ca/schedule/

I'm not to sure what the US broadcast schedule will look like, but I do remember reading somewhere that ESPN3 carries most (if not all) of the regular and post season games.

I'll try to keep anyone who's interested here up to date but I haven't really been following the league as much as I used to.

Console Gaming Discussion / PS4 System Software 4.00
August 25, 2016, 12:26:19 PM
This sounds like a rather ambitious update.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/08/15/ps4-system-software-4-00-will-feature-folders-ui-refresh-more/?emcid=em-pl-5-90683

QuoteOur beta for PS4's upcoming 4.00 update, codenamed Shingen, rolls out soon for everyone included in the public beta program. If you signed up and were selected, be on the lookout for an email with instructions on how to download.
Whether you're in the beta or not, we wanted to give everyone a glimpse at some of the new aspects of this system software. We're refreshing the system UI, adding tools for organization, updating the Quick Menu, and much more.

UI Refresh
We've made a lot of adjustments and improvements to PS4's main user interface. That includes some changes you may notice right away, like new system backgrounds and a revised What's New tab, to smaller changes like updated popup notifications and redesigned system icons. As a whole, it all adds up to a more refined and easy to use UI. The overall look and feel of the UI remains the same — it just has a fresh coat of paint.

Quick Menu
As you know, pressing and holding the PS button on your DualShock 4 brings up the Quick Menu. We've overhauled this menu to make it faster and easier to use. One big change is that the menu now only covers a portion of the screen, meaning you don't need to leave gameplay entirely.

We've added several new items to the Quick Menu, letting you quickly get info without having to back to the home screen. You can see the online status of your friends, and shortcuts to quickly access your Party, Favorite Groups, Communities, and more. You can also customize the Quick Menu, removing or adding items as you see fit.

Share Menu
We've given a similar overhaul to the Share Menu, which appears once you press the Share button on your DualShock 4. Like the Quick Menu, it only covers a portion of the screen. It will save the last social network you shared video clips or screenshots to, making the process of sharing a screenshot or video a bit faster and more streamlined.

You can also upload longer video clips to Twitter (was 10 seconds, now up to 140 seconds).

Folders and Library Organization
One of the big requests we get is for more options to organize content on PS4. With this update, we're adding functionality to create folders on PS4's content launcher and Library. This will help collect your favorite games and select apps in one place for quick and easy access.

We're also making some pretty big changes to the Library. We've added a new tab called Purchased, which will show all of the content you own — games, applications, demos, and betas you've participated in. As a result, the Games and Applications tabs focus on content currently installed on your system. This should help de-clutter your library, and make it faster to find the content you're looking for.

There are some new sorting tools for your Library as well. You'll be able to sort content by purchase date or install status, and search for specific games and apps via text input.

Trophy Improvements
This update brings the ability to view the Trophy offline. You'll see a new "offline mode" option if your system is unable to connect to the network, letting you view your entire Trophy collection without an Internet connection.

We've also added a button that will let you view the content of a Hidden Trophy. The Trophy will still be hidden by default, but you can now choose to show the Trophy name and info.

Lastly, we're changing the icons that show how rare a Trophy is. Instead of four boxes that fill, the icon looks like a pyramid with the ultra-rare Trophies at the top.

User Profile
We've updated the look of the User Profile, making it easier to see relevant info for a player at-a-glance. For instance, you can now see your Trophy progress compared with another player right from their profile. You can also add a background image to your own profile — perhaps a screenshot you took in one of your favorite games.

The update has even more features that won't be available in the beta, so stay tuned for additional info on what to expect. We'll be back with more info on 4.00, including its launch date, in the coming weeks.

http://www.geek.com/games/sony-gives-up-on-the-ps-vita-1637695/

QuoteJust last month, Sony said that a PS Vita sequel was unlikely given that there's no market for the device. If that didn't spell doom for the somewhat forgotten handheld, this almost certainly does: Sony is ceasing all first party development for the PS Vita.

In an interview, Sony Computer Entertainment SVP Masayasu Ito stated that first-party studios have no Vita games in development, and that the company is shifting focus to the PS4. He did state, though, that third parties are "working very hard" on the PS Vita, which was positioned as a way to assuage the fears of Vita fans — no, no, it's okay, third parties are going ham on your platform. Sony's new strategy — aside from letting others go ham in Sony's stead — is targeting a younger audience. Ito said the Vita's demographic is skewing younger nowadays, and the company will attempt to capitalize on that trend, with new hardware colors.

Of course, it's not exactly a surprise that Sony is focusing its development resources on the PS4 — the most popular gaming console on the market — instead of its also-ran handheld that, despite great hardware, began life with a very steep climb over the competition provided by Nintendo and, most importantly, mobile gaming. Considering Nintendo is finally getting in on mobile gaming, it's likely just a matter of time before portable gaming shifts to mobile, and the once great bastion of handheld consoles are a thing of the past. Although, you know, touchscreens don't make for the best gaming experiences, so handheld consoles will have a market until smartphone makers figure out what to do about that.

Just like the PSP, Sony never really utilized the compatibility of the Vita with the PS3 or PS4.
