Some SEC/ACC coaches and admins whine, and the NCAA comes calling to save their asses...of course. This ban is stupid and all it does is limit opportunities for kids.

"But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the negro poor has worsened over the last twelve or fifteen years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity." - Martin Luther King, Jr

Just an FYI
Voted against the camps:
Pac-12, SEC, ACC, Mountain West, Sun Belt and Big 12.

Voted for the camps:
Big 10, Conference USA, American, Mid American

Limit opportunities? maybe in 1985, I think satellite camps have some good things, but with 247 sports, Rivals, Hudl, fox sports and ESPN, kids are getting plenty of exposure.  Don't just say the SEC and ACC, say every Power 5 conference but the big 10 and some smaller conferences. You think for a minute that Urban, Saban, or Harbaugh doesn't know the up and coming players? Coaches are offering 8th graders for crying out loud.

Lol, you think that opportunities are unlimited now because of all the recruiting services out there? Might work for the big universities but what about your smaller colleges? You know, the smaller colleges that would see a kid at one of these camps, a kid that might not be good enough to get into a Michigan/Ohio State/Notre Dame but could benefit from an opportunity at a Central Michigan or Ball State. The NCAA acted stupidly (again) and chose to blanket ban everything because someone felt threatened (or like Ole Miss Coach Hugh Freeze, just really didn't want to work as hard as others), instead of looking at the facts from all angles.

Jim Harbaugh finally released a statement today, and he didn't mince words: "The incompetence of the NCAA has reared its ugly head yet again."

http://www.campusrush.com/jim-harbaugh-satellite-camp-ban-student-athlete-comments-1725253351.html?xid=si_social

QuoteCollege sports serve two missions: They are a multi-billion dollar business, and they provide opportunities for young people. With this new rule, as with so many, business trumps educational opportunities. The only thing the NCAA protected is the recruiting territory of the SEC and the ACC.

Harbaugh says, "This is going to affect thousands and thousands of people." That is no exaggeration. It will affect thousands and thousands of people. To understand why, let's look at what the NCAA really did.

Harbaugh famously took his staff on a well-promoted "Summer Swarm" satellite camp tour last summer. Anybody at a big-budget program could have done it; Harbaugh was simply the one who came up with the idea. But summer camps have been around for decades, and pretty much everybody in football would agree they have been a boon to the sport.

High school players learn from the best coaches in the sport. More importantly, for the price of one camp, they can get in front of several coaching staffs and potentially earn a scholarship. And even more important: Players get a taste of success. They get a little closer to their dreams.

If you have spent any time in impoverished neighborhoods, you know that the problems there go beyond finding food to eat and a roof to sleep under. People feel completely disconnected from their aspirations.

Camps help bridge that gap. Most kids won't earn scholarships to Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama or LSU. But they may be inspired to work harder and to keep their grades up, which could help give them a chance to go and succeed somewhere.

Sorry, but Rivals doesn't fill that gap.

Camps are open for all again. Several SEC schools already had camps planned before the ban. Expect camps out the wazoo LOL.

FYI I was against the ban, glad its over turned.

Now lets really let those gets get exposure and let the head coach go on the road and offer scholarships.

Ole Miss is looking bad by Tunsil phone getting hacked

Smoking a bong with gas mask, and texts to coach asking for money. Someone pissed off his step dad.

As for Tunsil...good lord that won't end well but probably won't be as bad for Ole Miss as it should be. If it's true, no wonder Hugh Freeze wasn't a fan of the satellite camps: looks like he was offering $$ instead hahaha

Bama in the news a DL coach is either stepping down or getting fired.
Rumors speculating he got into the buying of a player against the Mississippi school. Supposedly the kid went to MSU.
Quote
Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis is expected to leave the Crimson Tide football program because of an inquiry into possible recruiting violations, according to an earlier report from The Tuscaloosa News.

Davis will either resign from his position on Nick Saban's coaching staff or be fired because, per the report. Alabama has been conducting an internal investigation, while the NCAA has also made inquiries into the incident.

Davis returned to Tuscaloosa in 2014 to coach the Crimson Tide's defensive line the last two seasons, including last year's deep group of linemen that helped Alabama win the 2015 CFP National Championship.

The defensive line coach was 247Sports' No. 2 recruiter in the nation in the 2016 cycle and was back with the Tide after three seasons at Texas in the same position. He was a member of Saban's original staff in 2007.

"Bo does a really good job," Saban said last season. "He's a really good coach, he's got a good relationship with his players, he does a good job motivating the guys and each one of those guys has played better each year they've been here, each year he's worked with them. And we've got some guys that have been playing for a while and they're really playing well so far this year."
per http://alabama.247sports.com/Bolt/REPORT-Tide-DL-coach-Bo-Davis-to-leave-program-45077394
The player rumored in question that Bo Davis was involved with is said to be 5* Jeffrey Simmons. This is all alleged.

What I am proud of, is that Bama is taking action to dismiss the coach instead of pulling an Ole Miss and Auburn and daring the NCAA to find anything. Its a black eye, but at least we arent keeping the coach on board.

rollntider

Well it turns out the coach had been contacting kids during the dead period.

yea, it had to happen.
its sad because Briles is a good coach, but at some point, you have to accept the very likely idea that he knew something and if coaches are to be held liable then perhaps we will begin to see a shift in the assaults and rapes related to football players.

and in wake of the Baylor Scandal and before the 3 day weekend Ole Miss tries to slip this in.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/15766359/ole-miss-self-imposes-postseason-ban-women-basketball-reduced-scholarships-football

Quote• Former assistant coach David Saunders arranged for fraudulent ACT scores for three prospects in the summer of 2010. Saunders and former Ole Miss assistant Chris Vaughn were also accused of unethical conduct related to the testing fraud, and they are accused of providing temporary lodging, meals and entertainment for recruits in June and July 2010. In its response, Ole Miss officials agreed that the testing fraud occurred.

• Vaughn violated the NCAA cooperative principle by communicating with witnesses of an NCAA enforcement investigation, even after being admonished on several occasions to refrain from having such conversations. The NCAA determined his conduct to be a Level I violation.

• Between August 2014 and August 2015, an unnamed booster provided football players with impermissible extra benefits in the form of complimentary vehicle use, which the NCAA determined was a Level I allegation. Additionally, in June 2015, the booster provided a player with an impermissible, interest-free car loan. The NCAA said the monetary value of the extra benefits was approximately $7,495.

• The NCAA alleged Ole Miss officials failed to monitor the activities of the booster, a Level II violation.

• On or around August 22, 2014, an Ole Miss booster provided a football player with $800 cash, a Level 1 violation.

• Between June 7, 2013, and May 27, 2014, an Ole Miss booster provided extra benefits to a football player in the form of free lodging in Oxford, Mississippi, a Level 1 violation. The NCAA said the value of the benefits was approximately $2,253.

• During the 2012-13 academic year, an Ole Miss booster assisted the school in the recruitment of four prospects by engaging in recruiting activities and provided them with recruiting inducements totaling approximately $2,250. The NCAA alleges assistant coach Maurice Harris knew of the booster's involvement and, at times, facilitated his involvement, a Level 1 violation.

Academic Fraud and Payola. SMU got the death penalty for less.  Just saying. Bama and USC got hammered for doing less than this.

As for Baylor covering up rape, that might need a SMU type of penalty.

As I am a college football fan, this needs to stop.
I really like the talent Briles brought to UH and Baylor, but if he did wrong, he needs to suffer consequences as do all coaches and players.
Academic fraud, I don't want to say is more serious because that would demean rape but man, guy gets a free ride and escorted to a degree while others more deserving get screwed over?
Not cool.
The SMU thing, I'm still on the fence about it, I mean yea it was rampant and everyone was doing it and something had to be done, but when you compare what they did to what schools have been doing since? Far too severe in my book.
there's more but I'm on mobile and have to go to work lol
