Title: Spider-Man
Post by: TheNorm on September 09, 2018, 12:45:22 AM
Damn...so far this game is impressive. Still getting a bit used to the controls and combat (similar to Arkham), and I'm getting a kick out of web-swinging through the city. Story is pretty good but I feel like I'm just scratching the surface on what this game will do.

I have a strict no buying policy when it comes to new games, because I usually wait the 2-3 years for them to be in some labor day sale or something.

However, only I have that policy. I'm hoping all the hints I'm dropping will lead to my fiance getting it for me for Xmas.

This might be the first game since South Park: Fractured But Whole (lol that title still cracks me up) where I'm looking for an opportunity to fire it up again. This game is a bunch of fun so far.

I've had a hard time carving out time to actually play any console games lately, but this might be the one to actually get me to sit down for extended periods of time and just play. The web swinging and combat is a real blast so far.

This game lets you take some epic pictures too. I've never been to NYC, but damn I feel like Insomniac did the city/Spiderverse justice. Like thai mentioned, I also want to carve out moments of my day to play this game.

I haven't played much this year but this is easily GOTY material.

Kotaku had a great video article about the photo editor in this game. It's so cool!

I also love the different suits, in particular there's a cel-shaded Spiderman suit you can unlock that looks like it came straight out of the comic book. It even has the little dots that ink comic books have. They were taking pics with that suit on and it's crazy how well it fits in, even on the move, in the photo-realistic NYC. You'd think it might look awkward or like, not fluid or something, but nope. It's like a living comic being in the city.

But yeah, the filters, being able to use the Bugle, all the stuff in that photo editor is insane. The selfies are funny too, I saw where someone took a selfie in front of Ben Parker's grave.

The score for this game is underrated - at times it really feels like an MCU title.

Cot damn what a story...could seriously pass for an MCU movie. Can't wait to see what the DLC has in store, and if this is supposed to be part of a trilogy I can't wait to see what Insomniac Games has in store next.

First of three DLC dropped on Tuesday, and so far it's amazing with a new story as well as some more events and challenges to complete. I can't mention enough how well Insomniac did with this one.

So what are you thinking so far, Crewe?

its a fun game. Im not as lost on the controls here as I was with the Batman games because this is at least similar to Uncharted with the duck and dodge etc.
Im beyond the showdown with Fisk and both times with Shocker. Still lighting up transformers and searching for backpacks.
I have a hard time with car chases but hopefully that gets easier.

How do you buy attributes or upgrades in the menu? I see the cost is in crime tokens etc...and I see to have enough but can't execute. I didn't spend much time on it but I figure Im not seeing something correctly there.

Finally beat this game the other day after a long absence. Got 100% on story mode (not to be confused with a Platinum trophy, which I never get). I like that it was challenging, but not impossible, although the boss fights were pretty easy.

At some point I'll definitely have to buy the DLC for it, but, for now, I'm content to play New Game + and go back through with all my suits and upgrades. "Super" cool.

Ill try that. I looked at I again last night.
So,the suits for example...I unlock them, i.e., they appear available, but I can't utilize them yet, so I don't know what that means or how I get to that point.
Another is the skill tree, Im still at the top on all three with nothing else having become available.

Im going through each area, clearing it first; research labs, backpacks, landmark pictures, engaging in thug crime and demon crime, then Ill get to the story periodically along with side missions.
Right now, IM at 30% and in the story, I just protected Fisk's men while battling the demon men.
So maybe I just concentrate on the story and unlock all the other bs later?
Btw, I absolutely hate Harry's research lab tasks, just so mundane and pointless.

Lately, with games like this and RDR2, I've been on a "side-missions first, actual missions later" kick.

The collecting on Spider-Man isn't too bad either, and if you get tired of the grind (it CAN be a little repetitive when you have, say, just Crime Missions left), you can hop back and do a story mission or two. That was my method, anyways.

I can't remember exactly HOW the suits appear (I feel like you can't see them until you earn them, right?), so any suits you can see means you've unlocked them, but maybe don't have enough tokens to buy yet (also, when you get closer to level 40, start saving your crime tokens for the Cel-Shaded suit, aka the best costume in a Spider-Man game ever).

And yeah, as long as you have enough tokens, it's just holding down X on the suit you want (pretty sure it's X).

The skill tree I don't remember how often it progresses, but it takes longer to get skill points to unlock than it does tokens, so that may be accurate.

that helps quite a bit. Yea I can see the suits, but the way the columns are arranged (to purchase if you will) it looks like I have enough but maybe Im just reading it wrong.

Thanks for the tips!

ok, that worked on the suits etc, thanks for that.
So, I noticed, coming off of a structure, I accidentally hit the circle button and that shoots a web wherever you aim, but it doesn't do anything really.
Is there a point to that ability?
I did accidentally make a tightrope somehow while chasing those fucking pigeons lol
btw, those research lab quests are a serious pain in the ass, I hope there's a point to it all.
My MO has been to clear a section of town then move on to the next. Ill tackle the main mission when its close to whatever Im doing.
I get the feeling I won't finish this game, as I rarely, if ever have every completed on 100%, I think the Warriors was the only one I seriously closed in on and really tried, but got stuck in the 95% range IIRC.
More often than not, there will be some ungodly task that will zap the fun out of the game and force me to sack it, eventually.

The research labs are annoying, but not impossible.

I will say, when you get to the Taskmaster nonsense, you only need to get Bronze for it to count towards 100%. This is the only game I've gotten 100% in.

Aaaaand I think Ive found the 2 (so far) tasks that will frustrate the piss outta me forcing this one on the shelf.
That god awful research center where you have to blow out the vents (regulators) on a couple of buildings in no time flat.
After I said fuck that, and moved on, the very next one was the taskmaster where I have to waste every combatant in like 2:00, all without alerting anyone else. Ive had it down to the last two, but they are two feet from each other and it never works, so yea, fuck that too.
I call these the Jesus tasks because he's gonna have to do it cuz I sure in the hell can't.

Im at 65%. Pigeons, Landmarks. Backpacks and Black Cat are all done, but Harlem is killing me, which ar the above brick walls.

So I figured out (finally, moron) how to obtain more skills and it made life so much easier. I feel like I was operating at a handicap level, which I kind of was actually.
Just defeated Li and am at 74%.
Im enjoying the story but will continue to work the side missions until I can close most of it out or am left with only things to unlock.
maybe Ill get 90-95% but if I get that far it will piss me off if I can't get 100%

haha, yea bout to slow down though. Ive had about four or five days with a lot of time. Its been bad weather and on top I sort of wrench my back a week ago so it just kinda worked out where I could get some game time in.

The Taskmaster missions are manageable, but Ive got a few of those research labs on long time hold because they are next to impossible for me.
Hopefully I can knock em out down the road

Title: Re: Spider-Man

One of his I have set aside for the last thing is one of finding and dismantling bombs in some ridiculous short span.
Im convinced the devs will play a mission for ten hours a day for months and decide the absolute fastest any human being could complete this task is 30 seconds, sooooo, in the game, lets make it 25.
I kid, sort of, but on this one in particular, Ill swing into a wall and then my idiot will take off running in the other direction, won't let go of the wall, whatever, and cost me 2-3-4 seconds, one or two of those and its over. Or, they will have the bomb behind a waist hight wrought iron fence and then you jump it but go past the bomb and have to come back, another few seconds, game over.

Another of his is a timed stealth stealth assassination mission, just can't get it done right now. I played it literally 12 times in a row just now, and that was my cutoff tonite.
Hard is one thing, absurd is another, or I guess I just suck.

I may have watched some YouTube videos to figure out the most efficient way to do some of those Taskmasters. Webbing people to the ground or walls is crucial to be under the time (impact web gadget helps a lot here, as well as having the still that lets you hold Triangle to swing webbed enemies).

At 82% now and am loving the chaos in the city after the prison break, although it is more difficult, at least for me. Im not sure I can get 100% or not.
Title: Re: Spider-Man
Post by: Crewe on May 18, 2019, 03:38:03 PM
Anyone else put off the main mission for the other stuff first or is it just me?
Im at 88% just having defeated Electrode and Vulture, which took a couple of times I might add.
I spent way too much time fighting the pockets of prisoners and Sable guys which accomplishes nothing and gives you no rewards before I figured out it had nothing to do with the completion of the game.
So now focusing on the Sable bases which are tough for me. Twice I was down to the last guy and died lol
Those checkpoints are no easy task either.
I was looking around and I have to defeat 5/5 Sable AND Prisoner bases for each section of town? Damn, this is going to take a long time lol
Almost have all the challenges done I think and there are two research labs (one of which I cannot see on the map) and the other is that god awful ventilator task which will likely be the last thing I try to accomplish.
This act has really really ramped up story. It goes from a sort of feel good tale, flying around catching pigeons, webbing street thugs occasionally to complete chaos where everything is much more difficult.
Im considering lowering the difficulty on some of these bases just because of how long this is going to take me to complete them. I hope I don't have to, would like to run through on default level all the way through.
Title: Re: Spider-Man
Post by: Crewe on May 19, 2019, 05:09:29 AM
So it didn't take as long as I thought lol
Not so bad when you equip correctly.
The bosses were, kinda tough, some were I mean. I had a hard time with Electro and Vulture, primarily because I wasn't sure what to do for a bit and, its so easy to get turned around when all you do is dodge dodge dodge, but I figured it out before it became too frustrating.
Beat the Taskmaster within a couple of tries, but ws aggravated I received nothing for my efforts.
Scorpion and Rhino were the easiest but it took forever. Martin Li was the toughest and most fun. Doc wasn't too tough for the biggest baddie.
I love it when the devs throw up tips on what Im supposed to do right in the middle of me getting my ass kicked....like I can read that lol
Those Sable Jet Pack fuckers really pissed me off, a lot, until I figured out how to quickly dispose of them, but it took me a long time to get there.
Some great imagery when you fast travel and Spidey is riding the train, and I loved Jameson's podcast, perfect.
This is the first game in which Ive ever reached 100% and it was fun, challenging (fucking ventilators) but not overly tough to make me want to quit like many games do, either out of boredom or Jesus levels.
I really enjoyed the story, and I realize we take graphics and animation for granted these days but can I just note that this game looks wonderful.

Defeated all the DLC installments and I think that story was just as good as the main one.
Jesus Mary and Joseph was it tough!
The base fights were really tough, but by far the most fun to me was the speakeasy battle, great environment.
The boss fights were tougher too and some of the battles along the way frustrated me a bit, but the Screwball mission? Holy crap, that was insane on top of insanity.
Her Wrap Party, which was the very last thing I had to accomplish to obtain 100% on all the DLC, made me rage quit. I haven't done that in forever lol
I finally had to lower the difficulty level to beat it, and that was the only time in the game so Im sorta disappointed in that but not much else I could do there.
Throughout the course of the game and the DLC, I noticed I have most of the benchmarks completed too so IM going to go ahead and finish that up as well. Now IM just revisiting old battle sites to clear the benchmarks and I will have accomplished every single thing this game has to offer.
Fun stuff.

I figured once I buy and play the DLC I'll be in a similar situation with the benchmarks.

Just finished the main campaign, again lol Started the first DLC game, again. This game has turned in to a fun stress reliever kinda thing for me.

I captured some screenshots and selfies along the way, many of which I'd forgotten about, but I found it funny in some of the ways these characters ended up after fights. Some are webbed up in the strangest places.
My selfie game is not on point, at all. I wasn't even aware the camera display remained visible while capturing. Now I see there's a way to hide it. lol Oh well.

I'm unable to load pics in to this post for some reason, so here's an album link.

Sine you can match any suit power with any suit, no, no method.
I was indifferent to many of them. The black n gold I used for a good while. I liked the original webbed uni, but mostly I used the one Cat made, the all black with red logo. Although the Iron Man was kinda cool to zip around in for a bit

My only concern about the Miles thing, is I'm worried it'll be a PS5 "Deluxe Edition" type thing. Same Spidey game, same DLC, but with an added (and likely large, but not full game large) Miles DLC. I do hope it is its own standalone game.

I dunno. They have time to create an entire new game? I dont keep up with developments that much.

So with the reveal of Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PS5, I've decided to fire this one up again...and this time maybe actually get through the DLC.

Damn this game was so much fun.

you haven't completed the DLC yet?
oh well, just ANOTHER task for you ;-)

Lol, nope. Had put it down for so long I'd forgotten most of the moves. When you can't remember most of the moves at that point in the game it just turns into 50 different ways to see Spider-Man squashed...lol, no thanks. Since the game is so damn fun...why not start over? Plus not only did I not finish the DLC I also didn't finish off some of the side quests like the annoying girl that wanted to tape everything and Taskmaster.

That should tide me over until Ghosts of Tsushima.

Why not indeed?
Especially those jet pack fuckers. Never really had a tried and true method for taking them out.
That screwball chick was a freaking nightmare at the end. Pissed me off so badI had to turn difficulty down to crybaby just so I could complete her bullshit.
Taskmaster was difficult but he wasn't insane like that screwy chick, or maybe I just got lucky with him.

So, you comics readers help me out.
Apparently when Miles became Spider Man, he neglected to help Peter Parker out when he was in need and that resulted in his death?
If so, I cant see the video game going that route with the story.

Not really sure, but what a coincidence: Insomniac dropped a little more info about the new game today. Looks like this'll be a standalone game but...apparently a lot of people were concerned on what this meant for Peter, and he mentions near the end of this article that there's still plenty of his story to tell as well.

I don't know about the original Ultimate Spider-Man comics. I know in the Spider-Verse movie, Miles hasn't actually been bitten yet when he encounters his universe's Peter Parker, but he does watch him die (at least, pretty sure he didn't have his powers yet in the film).

Looking at his wiki page, it looks like yeah, in the comics, he does already have his powers but doesn't intervene in the Goblin/Spider-Man fight that leads to Parker's death.

Honestly though, it would be weird for Peter to die, considering how much his enemies are directly tied to Peter, as opposed to just Spider-Man in the PS4 game (although, to immediately undercut myself, I suppose the same could be said for the original Ultimate comics line too, and really any Spider-Man comic).

If we're going by comics, I'm damn near certain almost every superhero (and villain) has died multiple times, and been resurrected more times than Jesus lol.

Oh, Batgirl died too, right?

Bruce Wayne died sometime in the past few years, with Commissioner Gordon taking over as a mechanized Batman for a bit, until Bruce inevitably showed back up (with amnesia, naturally, I think?)

I don't know that Batgirl ever DIED, however she (controversially) brutalized by the Joker in The Killing Joke, which left her paralyzed. Then she became Oracle.

yea I saw the Killing Joke and knew that, but I thought they softened up because she died in the comics, but I guess not.
