Anthony Bourdain
« on: June 09, 2018, 09:19:31 AM »
Not much else to say other than what's already been said, really. Seemed like a genuine dude, and his love for my hometown and the birthplace of my parents is one that always stuck out to me. Wherever he went, he always tried to make those dishes something we'd want to try. Bourdain even got me to try some of the Filipino dishes my parents had been trying to get me to try from the time I was growing up lol. He even checked out Jollibee, the Philippines chain restaurant similar to McDonald's.

Loved his take on my hometown, too.

...and if you can only read one thing out of all this, please check out his blog post about Detroit.

Detroit looks like nowhere else. Detroit looks like motherfuckin’ Detroit. As it should.

I’ll say it again. And again.

I love Detroit. I love Detroiters. You’ve got to have a sense of humor to live in a city so relentlessly fucked. You’ve got to be tough—and occasionally even devious. And Detroiters are funny, tough—and supreme improvisers. They are also among the best and most fun drinkers in the country.

Oh. And before I forget. Every time I visit Detroit, somebody asks me if I’ve had a good Coney yet.

Apparently, I never had a great one.

I finally got one.

I understand now.

Glad you got your Coney, Mr. Bourdain. Rest in peace, there aren't many like you and you'll be missed.

Sad to see him go, used to love his no reservations show when it came on the travel channel. That and Bizarre foods were my favorite.
