Title: Peter Warrick Hall of Famers
Post by: BojackHorsefella on August 06, 2018, 11:53:36 AM
I can't remember if I've introduced this concept in a previous time or not, but my friend and I used to have what we called "Peter Warrick Hall of Famers." These were NFL players that were never going to make it to the HoF, yet were starters for their teams (or others) consistently for several years before just vanishing into the abyss (draft busts usually don't count, partially because they're remembered just for being busts, partially because their time in the league is usually shorter).

Anyways, here's a few names for examples. Usually I do a "Peter Warrick Hall of Famer of the Day," but I'm not sure I feel like committing to that schedule, so I'll just start things off and we'll see how well this does. You guys feel free to add too! Doesn't have to be one a day, doesn't have to be daily. It's fun to remember "these guys."

Edit: I'm compiling the posts after this one into, well, this one.

Two words: Jeff Garcia.

I almost went with a pic of him from his brief stint with Tampa, but I think we all think of him as a 49ers QB still (even despite that brief Eagles stint too). *pic now in first post*

me too, but as a Cowboys fan at the time, I certainly remember his Eagle days lol

1. Michael Westbrook- good enough to stick around and give us skins fans hope but never good enough to, well be good.

2. Kerry Collins- he won some he lost some and then he was gone.

3.  Marc Bulger- was actually really good at times but never good enough to top what he followed- Kurt Warner

4. David Woodley- lead his team to the super bowel and then was promptly forgotten.

5. Ron Dayne- Lumbered around for awhile then...poof he was gone.

Oh man, Michael Westbrook is one that, in all the years I've been bringing this up to people (it's genuinely been a thing for me since high school), I don't believe has EVER been brought up before, and you're right, that is the nail on the head definition of a PWHOF. So good.

Robert Porcher, DE

Had the unfortunate break of being a member of the Detroit Lions for his entire career, but damn he was ferocious. Any other team and he probably isn't in this list because he'd be in the HOF.

He was an absolute beast on Madden for years.

Marion Barber. Absolute horse for Dallas. If he had the line Zeke had, he would still be running

Mario Manningham. Solid pro, unfortunate a knee injury effectively ended his career.

Stephen Davis- good sometimes great back that had he been in the right situation for a longer time then three to four years would have put up world beating numbers.

I can latch on Clinton Portis to this too, as long as we're looking at Washington.

Christian Okoye- Retired the Chiefs all time rusher in yards and TDs, and was a beast in Tecmo Bowl

Today I shall go with..........well, lets be honest:

WR Wayne Chrebet.

He'll never make the Hall of Fame, but I wouldn't replace him with anyone for all those years he was with the Jets.

Lofa Tatupu comes to mind. One of my favorite players from the Holmgren era here. 3 straight Pro Bowls to start his career, culminating in a first team All-Pro in that third season on top of it all. Then faded in 2008 in Holmgren's last year and got hurt in 2009 in Mora's one and only year. Started in Pete Carroll's first year then was cut and never played again.

good call.
Ill go with Brian Westbrook. What a pain in the ass he was for the Cowboys every time they played the Eagles

I've collected all the players listed and added them to the first post (along with pics, some of them huge apparently).

Additionally: RB Olandis Gary, Denver Broncos

Lets all name Saints players today! There's soooooooooo many. I'll start!

QB Aaron Brooks (fun story, my old Verizon manager actually knows Aaron, had Aaron call me, and told Aaron about the PWHOFs, of which apparently Aaron's a fan after hearing about it).

I forgot how far back these go sometimes, haha. I was thinking of a couple others, but don't want to take them away from any of you (yet). I can think of like, 4 right off the top of my head (5 with Aaron).
