I think they took inspiration from the NFL Browns, and Jeff Hunt (the majority owner) wanted something unique. Personally I think RedBlacks is a stupid name, but it's better the bringing back the old Rough Riders name. Which a lot of fans wanted.

Was poopy doo doo head already taken?
Yes that's the Prime Minister of Canada's name.
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.
Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't.
And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would.

Week 5 Matchup

Wednesday July 19 @ 5:30 PM MDT
Montreal @ Ottawa

This is the first of two games this week for Ottawa, and their best chance of getting a win before things start to really go bad for them. To be honest they haven't looked all that bad. A combined total of seven points is all they have lost by, making them the best looking winless team right now.  Montreal on the other hand, despite beating Calgary last week, doesn't look all that great, and could be on the losing end in this contest. That is unless Ottawa finds a way to choke again.

Thursday July 20 @ 5:30 PM MDT
Edmonton @ Hamilton

3-0 vs 0-3. The best vs the worst. What more needs to be said?

I'm thinking this game could go one of two ways:

1. Hamilton decides to start playing proper football and this becomes a real close, right down to the wire game.

or

2. Hamilton forgets, again, that you need to have experienced DB's in order to be competitive, and Edmonton's pass happy offence puts up 100 points by the end of the first quarter.

Either way it should be exciting to watch.

Friday July 21 @ 8:00 PM MDT
Winnipeg @ B.C.

This game probably has the most riding on it. Standings wise that is.

So here is why:
IF Edmonton loses. Winnipeg could gain a share of first place with a win. While B.C. could become first overall with a win.
When Edmonton wins. Winnipeg could gain a share of second place with a win. While B.C could gain a share of first place with a win.

This is either going to be a real low scoring defensive game, or Winnipeg is going to get their ass handed to them, Cause after all "Bombing" is in their name.

Saturday July 22 @ 7:00 PM MDT
Saskatchewan @ Calgary

Yet another game that has some kind of meaning.

Because Calgary has a tie to their record, all they have to do is win and hope that Edmonton loses, and Calgary will be in first place.
Saskatchewan is looking for their second win of the season, and should they get it, they will be right back in the mix.

Monday July 24 @ 5:30 PM MDT
Ottawa @ Toronto

Is anybody else getting tired of watching Ottawa lose, cause I'm not.  :D

Bye Week: Nobody
Cause according to league rules you must have 5 games during week 5.

They do 5 games this week in honor of my birthday.

And Ottawa was kind enough to get their first win in honor of it.

I still have nightmares of Doug Flutie and Calvary crushing my team (Barracudas) to this day when I see that name. I still have love for the Cudas, wished it could have lasted longer.

Week 6 Matchups

Thursday July 27 @ 6:30 PM MDT
Montreal @ Winnipeg

I honestly can't think of anything to say about this game, other then I'm more then likely going to drink beer while watching it.

Friday July 28 @ 7:30 PM MDT
B.C. @ Edmonton
Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!!!!Edmonton is going to go 5-0!!!
First place is on the line, in the second of three matchups for B.C. and Edmonton.

Saturday July 29 @ 4:30 PM MDT
Toronto @ Saskatchewan

Best in the East, vs Worst in the West. Not really a marque match up, but watching Saskatchewan lose is always fun.

Saturday July 29 @ 7:30 PM MDT
Hamilton @ Calgary

Calgary has a high power offence, mostly. Hamilton has yet to win a game, due to a lackluster defence.
This game could get ugly real fast.

Bye Week: Ottawa
I think they should have had to have won both their games last week in order to get a bye. But I don't make the rules.

I kinda wish the american expansion would have been longer as well. Other then Baltimore, I don't remember the other teams being all that successful.

Birmingham had actuallly great attendance until college football started.  I can remember the first few games i went too it was crowded as hell. By the time the College season started Jack Pardee heard me heckle him and he pointed at me... LOL

I only missed one home game that year. the week my daughter was born. Art Williams tried to keep the team in Bham, he petitioned the league to move all of the home games early or move the season back because he could not compete with Alabama and auburn.

Fun games....

Never understood why the league did not let Memphis and Bham play more.... that could have been a rivalry
