Video Gaming General / Retro Arcade Gaming Thread
« on: June 20, 2019, 12:58:27 PM »
What compels this thread? Well...Time Pilot.

So anyway, I've been searching for this game for a long time and Chicago does have a bunch of Barcades in the area. None of them, however, had a Time Pilot machine, and that is one of my all-time favorite arcade games. Just hadn't been lucky enough to find it...until yesterday.

Turns out the PS Store finally released a port of that game around the middle of April and I didn't know it until then. $7.99 well spent. :) Add that to my classics on the PS4, along with Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaga, and Double Dragon II. Mat Mania is another one from the 80s I loved dumping quarters into, and may pull the trigger on eventually.

What were some of your favorites growing up and on your wish list to see?

You just had to know this thread was coming.  8)

So imagine waking up a little after 6:15 in the morning for no reason at all, like I did - kinda grumpy because no one wants to wake up that early on their day off. Since I crashed out, I didn't plug in my phone either; but since it was right by me I decided to check Twitter just in case I had the chance to laugh at the Moron in Chief and any things he to say about the report that completely exonerated him. Twitter had other plans, however...

Naturally, I calmly typed out a quick RT with the hopeful message that I was looking for.

Found my answer a little bit later.

Again, I typed out a couple of calm, measured tweets in response to this bit of good news.

The rest of Red Wing twitter however was not as calm or in control as I was.
Invalid Tweet ID
A few hours later, around 3pm, a press conference happened to confirm what was made public hours earlier.

Once again, I kept my cool and sent a response of general approval.

I think this covers the emotions of the moment.

I'll have more to say in the days and weeks ahead, but this simply is awesome. Take the Harbaugh coming back to Michigan response and multiply that by 1000. My idol's home and things are starting to look bright in Hockeytown once again. :)

Console Gaming Discussion / NBA 2K19

It was on sale for cheap last week on the Playstation Store and I haven't played it in a couple of seasons, so I thought now would be a good time to pick the game up. Not disappointed. I always felt this game rivaled the MLB series in regards to atmosphere, and the MyCareer mode (think Road to the Show) with the story and immersing you into that life is something RTTS should aspire to.

This time the MyCareer mode starts off with a prelude of sorts, where your created player decides to leave school a little too early and ends up starting his career in the Chinese league.

Still getting used to the controls since it's been awhile, but the game plays a great game of basketball. Worth a look if you're needing a hoops game and can find it at a discounted rate.

Chit Chat / Your 2018 Bests
« on: December 31, 2018, 11:05:04 AM »
This is self explanatory: what are some of your faves from this past year? Can be the usual (books, movies, shows, songs, whatever). Rank 'em if you want, or just list your best: totally up to you!

Favorite Movie: I'd rank them but to be honest I haven't seen enough this year to do that. Either way, Black Panther tops the list for me with Avengers: Infinity War a close second.

Top Songs: According to what I listened to most this year on Spotify, my Top Ten (and further proof that dance stuff pretty much consumes my listening habits now):

1. Shawn Mendes - Nervous
2. The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar - Pray for Me
3. Ed Sheeran - Perfect
4. Niall Horan - On the Loose
5. Imagine Dragons - Whatever It Takes
6. Bruno Mars & Cardi B - Finesse (Remix)
7. Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still
8. Charlie Puth - We Don't Talk Anymore (feat. Selena Gomez)
9. Maroon 5 - What Lovers Do (feat. SZA)
10. Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song

Favorite Sports Moments

1. This one (sorry Crewe)

2. Michigan Football's Revenge Tour - It didn't end like I'd hoped and once again we're into another offseason with parts of the fanbase getting ready to meltdown, but for a couple of months things were a ton of fun. Brighter days are ahead too if Harbaugh can make the necessary adjustments.

More to come later...

Video Gaming General / What Happened to John Marston

With RDR II dropping in just a few short days, here's a pretty decent read about the voice of John Marston from the original.

Other Sports / The 2018-19 NHL Season Thread
« on: October 04, 2018, 11:03:04 AM »
This, right here, is how I feel every league should announce a suspension going forward. The NHL has been doing this right for a few seasons, back to the days when Brendan Shanahan was in charge of the Department of Player Safety.

After seeing this, Tom Wilson's lucky he didn't get suspended indefinitely because he deserved it. 20 games is not an insignificant number by any stretch and I have no problem saying he deserved more.

Console Gaming Discussion / NHL 19
« on: October 01, 2018, 09:18:17 PM »
I haven't played this series seriously in a very long time, and I think the only reason I picked up NHL 17 a couple of years back is because the PS Store had it on sale for less than $10...and after playing that for a little bit I felt like I overpaid.

This year's version, though? Plays a good game of hockey and the various game modes are fun. Haven't even dived into franchise mode yet simply because the others have been a blast. Not sure this will have staying power for me since Spidey's still a blast, RDR2 is coming out, and I still want to check NBA2K19 at some point...but this gen might finally have a hockey game worth playing.

To be continued...

Damn. Knew this day was coming for a little while, but still a bummer just the same. Z was one hell of a captain and hockey player for the Red Wings, and his leadership will be missed.

Console Gaming Discussion / Spider-Man
« on: September 09, 2018, 12:45:22 AM » far this game is impressive. Still getting a bit used to the controls and combat (similar to Arkham), and I'm getting a kick out of web-swinging through the city. Story is pretty good but I feel like I'm just scratching the surface on what this game will do.

Pro Football / Your NFL Team Mt. Rushmore
« on: September 06, 2018, 10:42:24 AM »
Exactly what the title says: what four players from your favorite team would be on their Mt. Rushmore?

Detroit Lions

Barry Sanders - no brainer
Calvin Johnson - also a no brainer
Lem Barney - all I've ever seen is highlights, but this guy was one hell of a CB.
Billy Sims - this guy was incredible to watch, just a bummer injuries cut his career short.

Really hadn't planned on picking this up, but since it was a gift...I'll play.

Played through the Longshot: Homecoming story, and not as enjoyable as the first one and also kind of sappy. Some of the playcalling stuff is just aggravating too. For example, you'll be set with parameters to score on a drive, and even if you get to a goal to go but don't hit the endzone when a FG would also suffice it counts as a failure and you need to start the drive over. Happened a bunch of times and it's really annoying. Multiply that annoyance x1000 if you get to 4th & inches and have to start the drive over instead of going for it.

As for the gameplay, though: pretty solid so far and the graphics are top notch. Will try to get a couple more games in before this gets derailed by Spider-Man and RDR II in the next couple of months.
