Guardians of the Galaxy
Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bautista

It seems like Marvel Studios simply can't miss these days, with the likes of Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, Iron Man, Amazing Spider-Man, and X-Men all turning into major hits at the theatres. Most of them have even been enjoyable (ignores Iron Man 2). But I'll be honest, when I heard this got the green light I thought: what the f*ck? As with most Marvel releases though, I'll give it a shot...and I'm glad I did. The director does a good job of explaining the characters and their back stories, and I thought everyone was well cast (even the voices: Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Josh Brolin). Chris Pratt really does steal the show, though.

I haven't spent very much time watching WSOP the last few years, but decided to watch the tournament they call "The Big One", with the $1,000,000 buy-in for the players (started I'm assuming as a tourney for the poker pros instead of the $10K main event that many seem to be able to play in). Anyway, witnessed what may very well be the worst bad beat I've ever seen...ouch.

This may surprise some of you, but since the PCF days, I too have gotten into console gaming. I still prefer the PC, but the industry won't put a lot of titles on the PC so if I want to play some of the new games I have to adapt, I guess.

With this generation, I am gunshy to buy either at this point. Looking at the last generation, Xbox 360 fats were shit because of the whole RROD thing. PS3, while not nearly as widespread, had that YROD issue, also.

Judging by recent history, both M$ and Sony will put out an updated, improved version of their product, ala 360 slim and the smaller version of the PS3. I think I'll wait for that to come around before making the investment.

Also, last I looked (not too long ago) the Xbox One had something like 10 titles for it. If there were more, it wasn't by much. Not a lot to choose from. I'd rather wait for the prices to drop and the library to go.

Another advantage to waiting it is gives the pirate community time to come up with a good way to run unsigned code on the machines...opening up a whole new world of possibilities.

All valid points and ones I adhered to in all previous consoles dating back to the PS One.  This time, I had the shot, there was no danger, so I took it.

You took it...AND BROKE A MAJOR RULE OF ENGAGEMENT!
Then you broke another one with that circus stunt fly-by.

Well played, good sir!

And...done. This story was amazing, and I absolutely loved it-lots of fun and I highly recommend it. Side missions are a treat, too.

Now to venture and see about giving online a chance...

I had no idea that Mad Max was being rebooted by the guy that did them all in the first place...anyway, here's the first trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road.

Pro Football / Ray Rice suspended two games
July 24, 2014, 03:06:23 PM
:o So let me get this straight: Robert Mathis gets 4 games for using an illegal substance, but Ray Rice--a guy that knocked out his fiance and dragged her into an elevator--is suspended for two. Great message to send, NFL. By this rationale, Rice would've gotten punished more for asking his fiance for weed instead of slugging her.  ::)

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11257692/ray-rice-baltimore-ravens-suspended-2-games

But hey, the NFL will sell a bunch of pink NFL jerseys to show that they really care about women's issues, right?? I'm sure someone could even buy a pink Ray Rice jersey if they really wanted to...because he cares.

Sheesh, Terrelle Pryor got 5 games for getting free stuff in college. How the f*ck does this make any sense? Because I sure would love to hear an explanation from the league on this one.

Am I THE ONLY guy that didnt like Red Dead Redemption?
If GTA is not up to that, then I think Ill pass....

I'm guessing that YES, you are the only one that didn't like RDR.  :P
Different strokes, different folks, all that jazz. If you liked GTA IV, I personally think you'll like this one even better.

Bret, there's never been money involved in this league and all the winner gets is bragging rights-which some will use more than others.  :P You're more than welcome to join, but hey, I totally get your reasons too if you don't.

Pro Football / Re: Michael Sam and Tony Dungy
July 23, 2014, 09:18:51 PM
If someone's got a problem with Michael Sam playing in the NFL, that's on them and not on Sam. And in my eyes, "Hey, look at Sam, he's gay and playing in the NFL" sounds awfully similar to "Hey, look at Jackie Robinson, he's black and playing baseball". Did that happen for a little while? Absolutely. But did people get over it? Most did, and to hell with the ones that didn't.

That applies to the locker room too. Like I said before, his teammates at Missouri knew for an entire season, and while we may never know everything that went on most of his teammates seemed to support him and the team did just fine. If a player in the locker room in St. Louis has a problem with his orientation, then that's his problem.

And for the record (not that it matters), I don't care about his sexual orientation either. If he can play, then he can play. That being said, for good or bad what he is matters to a lot of people. Did he do it for the attention? Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, I really don't know or care. But if one person-say, a kid in high school or in college-can look at his example and say 'hey, you know what? If he can be brave enough to step forward, then so can I', then this is all worth it. Michael Sam took that step, and if helps others follow then by all means have at it.

I'm going to word this as delicately as possible: oh horseshit.

Tony Dungy's a f*cking hypocrite. This is the same guy that said to give Michael Vick another shot after he got out of prison for his role in a dogfighting operation. Vick even had cameras following him around once he got out...what, that's not a distraction? Give me a f*cking break. By your rationale, once Vick got out of prison, he'd always be a dog killer first, and an NFL player somewhere after that. That's just the reality...and teams seemed to deal with it just fine. Eventually the news moved on to something else, as they always do.

Michael Sam informed his teammates prior to his senior year at Missouri. It was such a distraction to that team they only went 12-2 (7-1 in the SEC). Granted the media and the world didn't know, but his teammates sure seemed to handle it just swell. That's what counts.

Hey, you don't want to draft a guy because you feel he'll fail to be a viable player in the NFL, by all means that's fine-plenty of teams did that for nearly six rounds. But if you're of the impression that your team can't handle the temporary scrutiny of drafting the first openly gay player in the NFL and that's why they passed him up, then your team just sucks (if they can't handle that then they sure as hell can't handle many other distractions like a football player dealing drugs, killing dogs, or punching his girlfriend in an elevator).

And as far as the guy keeping his mouth shut about who he is, once again: horse shit.

Video Gaming General / Grand Theft Auto V

A little over 10 months later, and what was once unthinkable is now fairly close to reality: I'm actually going to finish the main storyline in a Grand Theft Auto game.  :o

This game has been pretty fun and enjoyable, and the characters are all great. Trevor is hilarious. Haven't even ventured online with this game, and I've gotten way more than my $$ worth. Fantastic Rockstar game-still might not top Red Dead Redemption for me, but really f'ing good.

Still have that one plat for Walking Dead Season One...haven't even looked to see if Season Two also has a plat at the end of that series, but if it does that'll probably be plat #2.  :P

Meh, I don't mind watching shows when I actually have time. Although I do have to be choosier about what I devote time to (since I also don't want to start getting into a show only to see it gone after one season), occasionally I'll guess wrong on a show. For example, I thought for sure Hannibal would be cancelled after one season so I stopped recording it on my DVR last year since I didn't have time to watch. Turns out it finished season 2 a couple of months ago and has been absolutely excellent; I hear Mads Mikkelson is an excellent Hannibal Lecter and the series has been great. I'll have to catch up down the road with that one...and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., too.

Still keeping up on 24 this season (Jack Bauer forever), and I've enjoyed MasterChef too. I also can't wait for Season 3 of The Newsroom to get started.

As far as Netflix goes, been watching West Wing on a regular basis-had forgotten just how much I absolutely loved that show.

Damn man, those are awesome numbers-and congrats on another WS title!

I really need to get around to creating a hitter, but I don't know what I want-a 5-tool guy like Mike Trout, a speedy guy kind of like yours, or an A-Rod type pre-steroids.
I wonder if this game has a Derek Jeter primadonna mode, where you can announce your retirement before the season and then have teams bend over backwards to blow you when you visit them on the road for the last time.  :o
