SEC
« on: July 25, 2021, 12:30:23 PM »
This Texas OU move to the SEC, yay or nay?
Is it happening? Who will likely stop it, if anyone?
Will OU really go anywhere without OK State? What will Baylor have to say?
Are the Aggies still at the kids table in the SEC? Will it really be worse for them if Texas and OU show up?
More importantly, what will the division alignments look like now?

People are crazy if they thing A&M is scared of Texas and fled the Big 12, thats ludicrous. Texas was hoarding everything in the conference.
As for me, well, Ill always hate OU and any reason to further that hate is ok with me. Texas? I pull for all Texas schools, although I have them ranked and UT is, well, not at the top, and still wont be depending on how they act and who they play.
I also think OU coming along will absorb any negativity from the Big 12 or anywhere else for that matter.

Now teams like Houston and SMU will likely be pursued to the Big 12 and as much as I love my Cougars, this severely weakens the Big 12 with these two leaving. Does that bode well for smaller teams coming in, and for the remaining teams or will the whole state go to the SEC now?
It'll be interesting

Short version: the Big 12 is probably on life support. My feeling is the Big Ten (change the fing name already) and the PAC-12 try to poach some others. Hell, the ACC may try it too (theyre probably a step ahead with Notre Dame practically in the fold), in an effort to be one of the super conferences with 16 teams. The next few weeks/months are gonna be fascinating to watch.

and Im gonna hate all of it. Im not going to recognize college football a few years from now, with the regional rivalries becoming less and less. One of the things I loved about college football was getting to see Michigan play (almost) every team in the conference every season, and at most maybe skip a year. Once this all plays out Ill be lucky to see Michigan play Minnesota for the Little Brown Jug maybe once every five years. A trip to Camp Randall or Champaign may happen even less. Every conference had those regional rivalries or little trophies that might not mean much to outsiders but they sure meant something to the teams, students, and alumni. It started going that way with the last realignment, this next round will just take it even further.

This is dumb.
But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the negro poor has worsened over the last twelve or fifteen years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity. - Martin Luther King, Jr

I agree with you I dont think A&M was scared.  I think they liked being above Texas for change. The SWC and Big 12 did whatever Texas wanted. Now they are joining the SEC. Nebraska, Mizzou, A&M, Colorado all left the Big 12 because of Texas. The OU and NU rivalry was pretty much non existent after the big 12 formed.

I am with Norm. College football isnt going to be what we are used to. I am not for it because it becomes NFL light. Not because of competition. This will hurt the smaller schools and the big schools will get bigger.

I hear people bitching about La Monroe playing Bama or Citedale playing clemson. Those schools need money also, plus the ticket availability is easier. Plus it gives the backups playing time.

I dont like it because it makes the game more professional, we already have the NFL. I think what we have now is pretty good but what we are getting is overdoing it. We shoulda did a 6 team playoff. Split the group of 5 into their own division and let them have a playoff. They can still play each other regular season. But there isnt enough elite teams to have these elite conferences. I think West Va, BYU and Notre dame are it for making an elite conference.

Texas ruins everything. That's a good point about it heading in a pro direction, more corporate, a conglomerate. Pretty soon there will be just a few conferences, SEC North and South probably.
The regional thing is surely near death and I agree, just kill the Big 12 already, there's no prestige to it. If anything, re create the SWC
