Succession S1

This series, despite having characters with terrible vile traits, somehow made them sympathetic to me, at times anyway. It's certainly an interesting fun ride.
Branded as a dark comedy, I find it more of a dramatic piece with natural comedic tendencies.
Kind of along the lines of the Sopranos, but please note, that is not in any way a direct comparison because we know that show is another level.

The Roy family, led by its patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox), is dysfunctional as one would expect a super rich out of touch family to be, and it starts with Roy.
He is fleshed out as the hard nosed, unsympathetic corporate mogul, fascinated with the directing the message of the country via TV stations and other electronic media. Sound familiar?
He has several wives and several kids that span those wives and while some are kinder and gentler than he is, they are still despicable beings, but fun to watch.
Some plot points are tropey but still maintain believable.
It's a familial copororate driven show, think Dallas, almost.
Im about to start S2 so we shall see how it unfolds.
Give it a go, I think you'll like it.

Ill let you know how it goes since I already purchased it before learning of all these new features lol
I dont know what game pass is but I know they are trying to bring in casual gamers on both next gen systems while still satisfying the DD guys.

I thought about Madden 22 the other day. What's the outlook there? I really need a football game.
NCAA wont be back until at least 23 I think I read.
Last Madden game I played was 09, I keep hoping they improve enough for me to buy one but every year I read that it's still shit.

I was able to pick up a PS5 not long ago and MLB is driving force behind that move.
Normally, I just dont get in to the feature videos and all that, but this time I did for some reason and I think Im sorry.
Primarily an RTTS guy, it appears, if I understand the revamped system correctly, gone are the days of progressing attributes of your player.
They want Diamond Dynasty to be the end all for this series and this was step one in phasing out RTTS.
Your created guy can span RTTS and DD, but with that, you can now only progress to 50 in all categories.
Beyond that, you have loadouts you use that are good for one game at a time. Those equal the other 49 attribute points somehow.
Now, like I say, if I undestand correctly, waht happens is, say you want to be Barry Bonds one game and just crush homers all night. Well, pick the appropriate load out.
You wanna bunt single and fly around the bases? Choose that load out. Wanna be a gold glover? Be that guy.
So basically, you are an elite five tool athlete now without having to work at it.
Arcade style just evicerated RTTS and I could not be more displeased.

« on: April 06, 2021, 03:53:05 PM »
Ive had several recipes marked in my Sopranos cookbook for a while and finally tried one this weekend.
Im going by memory here...

Rigatoni Sweet Sausage and sauce

In a bit of oil, if desired, I usually dont when browning meat, but I did here;
Brown a pound of Italian mild or sweet sausage once almost done recipe said add 2 cloves of garlic, I used 6.
Also, recipe said to buy sausage as in links, then remove casings, but I just bought it ground already, why bother?
At this point, I added mushrooms because I love mushrooms, however it is not called for in the recipe.
Add 1/2 cup dry wine; all I had was cooking sherry, works fine.
Simmer until most of wine evaporates.
Add a 28 oz can of whole tomatoes. Once added, I crush them with a wooden spoon, recipe says to run through a food mill, but whatever.
Bring to a simmer then lower heat for an hour to hour fifteen until sauce thickens.
Tear or cut as many basil leaves as you want and add in; recipe calls for five, I used a bit more.

During all of this, you should have been boiling a pound of pasta.
I salt the water straight away, get it to boiling, add a solid pat of butter, then in with the pasta.
I used rigatoni per the recipe. Penne would probably work, although I wouldnt go with egg noodles. I mean I guess you could use whatever you want lol.
Which ever way you prepare to serve (see note) now add a half cup of shredded Reggiano Parmasean or some other good aged parmasean. DO NOT USE THAT SHIT IN THE CAN.

Tips:
If you toss your pasta in with the sauce before serving, be aware, this is a lot of pasta so make sure it doesnt bury the sauce.
I buy whole mushrooms and slice them myself, but use them or not.
San Marzano Italian tomatoes are always a win for me. You could use crushed tomatoes but I wouldnt use diced unless it's all you have because I just think it would affect the heartiness of the meal.
Lastly, I didnt have to let my sauce stand that long, but go as long as you want or need to in order to achieve desired consistency.

There is a book thread here somewhere because I updated my Star Wars reading salvo there not long ago.
Nice to see Lebowski and the Office crack any list lol

On the health front, I seriously need to lose weight, like a metric fuck ton as Im in the worst shape of my life.
I have completed a beginner 30 day course of yoga, twice, and am now just bouncing around through other beginner courses on line.
It was amazing to me how much strength I lost during the pandemic, and If Im being honest, it began before that but Covid just exacerbated everything for the worse.
So I picked up some cables not long ago just to get something going at the hosue, but man, as much as I hated going to the gym, I miss the results. My 1 rep max is probably equivalent to that of a junior high girl.
Once I hit my 14 day post second shot threshold, I may hit the gym again, although that means paying for it, and well, that's a whole other story...

The Knick
Clive Owen

Story surrounds doctors and others centered around the KNickerbocker Hospital in NYC in 1900.
Strong social commentary as well as historical look at medical practices and innovations.
Good character development on a wide array of actors.
This should get more notice I think

The Terror
Season 1 only

I was interested, but sort of put off for some reason I cant identify. I had to have subtitles on because I cannot understand these guys completely and was tired or rewinding, especially on Prime because their interface sucks.
I liked it well enough to suggest you wtch it but i wasnt enthralled.
It is based on Captain Sir John Franklin's sailing dont know anything about the true story so I cant comment.

I'm always around, even if I don't talk as much (I wish I had your guys love and appreciation of music...) Still, especially during this pandemic but even before, it's been really nice to have BSB still here and to shoot the back and forth with you guys (with surprise appearances by BBB and Tider that one time).

I agree. I still check here almost daily, I just dont post near as much
