Kid who cannot play football anymore gets scholarship

Former touted recruit Elisha Shaw was one of the more heart-warming stories of the 2014 recruiting cycle. Shaw, who once held offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, and others, suffered a season ending neck injury in preseason practice that put his football career in jeopardy. With help of the Tide coaches, Shaw is set to attend the University of Alabama on a non-football scholarship.

The Tucker (Ga.) native filed a waiver with the NCAA and was approved to enroll at Alabama.


Shaw was named an Army All-American in November.

Saban gets a lot of press on how he churns and burns players, but the fact is, if a player cannot play, he still gives the kids medical scholarships. This one was still a recruit and Bama stayed with him even after he could not play again. Bama gave the kid a medical hardship scholarship, and the NCAA approved it today.
