:o So let me get this straight: Robert Mathis gets 4 games for using an illegal substance, but Ray Rice--a guy that knocked out his fiance and dragged her into an elevator--is suspended for two. Great message to send, NFL. By this rationale, Rice would've gotten punished more for asking his fiance for weed instead of slugging her.  ::)

But hey, the NFL will sell a bunch of pink NFL jerseys to show that they really care about women's issues, right?? I'm sure someone could even buy a pink Ray Rice jersey if they really wanted to...because he cares.

Sheesh, Terrelle Pryor got 5 games for getting free stuff in college. How the f*ck does this make any sense? Because I sure would love to hear an explanation from the league on this one.
"But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the negro poor has worsened over the last twelve or fifteen years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity." - Martin Luther King, Jr

Well, she did end up marrying the guy after all of this, right? So apparently she isn't upset about it.

I'm not defending Rice or his actions whatsoever. In fact, I think it is disgusting and the bitch is stupid to stay with him after that, let alone marry him. However...

I hate this shit. What I mean is that the NFL should stay out of these matters.

When a player (or anyone with the league) gets in trouble on his own time, for matters having absolutely nothing to do with football, then it has nothing to do with the NFL or any team. This is why we have a criminal justice system, to handle these matters and provide consequences when warranted. I know speaking for myself, personally, I don't want my employer getting up in my business for any indiscretions that happen when I am at home. If they're not paying me for that time, then what I do or not do with it isn't up to them. So long as it doesn't affect my job it is none of their business. I believe that NFL players are entitled to that same respect, and I'm really not seeing why they aren't.

This may sound sexist, or un-pc, but I don't care, Imma say it...it isn't Ray Rice setting a bad example here, it is Janay for going back to the man that beat her. You want to make a stand against domestic violence? You want to be a role model for people? Do so by doing the right thing in this situation. A man hitting his woman, even once, should be grounds for immediate divorce. What we allow is what we'll receive. Janay has established that she doesn't have a problem with her man hitting her. Is that really the message that should be sent here???

The NFL and its players are extremely visible and rely on public perception as part of their success which is why I would imagine they get involved.
They have every right to get in the players business for anything and everything they do off the field.  Now Im assuming here, but Id be willing to bet it's written that the players have to behave in a proper manner or can be punished by the league regardless if its on or off the field.
I know its easy to sit back and say leave, but really, if it were truly that easy, it wouldnt be a continuing problem.  I dont know if you do or not, but if you had a good friend or family member who was a battered spouse, it might be easier to see why its tough for them, speaking for myself anyway.
With all that, this clip of Bill Burr came to mind and while hilarious, he also makes some compelling arguments.
1:05, 3:45, 4:45 and 5:10 are high points but the entire bit is great. And ignore the uploaders comments...
