Only Nintendo have the history of killing their consoles once the new one is out.  Nintendo drops their consoles and bans new releases on previous generations the day the shrinkwrap comes off the first of the new generation of Nintendo console.  But Microsoft and Sony have been supporting the 360/PS3 for some time still.  Still, the Xbox can't connect to Live anymore, who knows how long until Microsoft officially (or secretly) kills the 360's ability to connect to live?

good point. I bet it will be a while.  Nintendo used to support their previous generations but its been since the Cube.
NES/SNES
Gameboy/Color/Advanced
Advanced / DS
DS/3ds
Cube /Wii  (I know that a zelda game came out for both and a few other games, but the life cycle was short)
