A little over 10 months later, and what was once unthinkable is now fairly close to reality: I'm actually going to finish the main storyline in a Grand Theft Auto game. :o
This game has been pretty fun and enjoyable, and the characters are all great. Trevor is hilarious. Haven't even ventured online with this game, and I've gotten way more than my $$ worth. Fantastic Rockstar game-still might not top Red Dead Redemption for me, but really f'ing good.
cool...good to hear.
Am I THE ONLY guy that didnt like Red Dead Redemption?
If GTA is not up to that, then I think Ill pass....

Rollntider, I think something is wrong with the database again. Crewe's message looks as if he didn't like Red Dead Redemption. That can't be right, so maybe you can take a look at the forum software or something...
As to GTAV. I played it for a while. With a game like that, I like to get emotionally invested in one character. I didn't like how GTAV kept switching back and forth between protagonists. I stopped playing last October when I moved into my new house, and I just haven't got back into it yet.

I'm guessing that YES, you are the only one that didn't like RDR. :P
Different strokes, different folks, all that jazz. If you liked GTA IV, I personally think you'll like this one even better.
Concerning RDR, I'm going to make what seems like a bold statement, but I've had four years to think this over so I'm confident in what I'm about to say...
Regardless of the year/era, platform, or genre, RDR is, in my opinion, the best video game made...ever.

lol its not the software I assure you.
Its not that I hated it, I just didnt see the draw (pun alert!) of the game.
The genre was much needed, and still is in my mind, but I guess I just didnt give it a fair chance?
I dunno, I was just sorta meh about it.
And...done. This story was amazing, and I absolutely loved it-lots of fun and I highly recommend it. Side missions are a treat, too.
Now to venture and see about giving online a chance...
Look me up Norm. I bought it last week. Almost done with the story but willing to co-op on the trophies.

Didn't we name it BSB Game of the Year when we started doing those tournaments?
Finished the story a couple nights ago. Not sure how I felt about being in control of a complete psychopath like Trevor, especially the one scene. Playing Spec Ops the line right before GTA was probably not a good move. But definitely good to see continued innovation in this series. The heists were fun to put together and pull off, even the Merriweather one ( grumble grumble ).
The Merriweather job was an absolute...well, you know. And I did add you, just haven't been online playing much lately.
No problemo. I've just been running around the city blowin' s*** up. ;D

I didn't really like it much either, so not the only person. I find that Rockstar games in general, I just can't be bothered with.

You know, lady Sakura, I've been wondering about testing different genres. What do you like to play? Or more to the point, what do you think would be a good game to introduce an action/shooter/RPG-lite gamer like myself to something different?

Well, I suppose it's dependent on genres and platforms. I'll list off the notable games for platforms.
Right now, what I've got installed on Steam is:
- Dark Souls 1 & 2 (Action/RPG)
- Alan Wake (Survival/Action/Horror)
- E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy (RPG/Action/Shooter/Weird)
- Hotline Miami (Action/Arcade)
- Melody's Escape (Rhythm)
- Neverwinter Nights 2 (RPG)
- Risk of Rain (Action/Rogue-Lite)
- Shadowrun Returns (Turn-based strategy/RPG)
- Space Engineers (Space/Survival/Exploration/Creativity)
Of course I enjoy the standard classics, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, et al.
Other games I enjoy include:
- Rust (Multiplayer PvP Survival, similar to DayZ)
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (Tactical Shooter/RPG)
- Borderlands (Action/Shooter/RPG)
- Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Survival/Horror)
- Metro 2033 (Survival/Shooter/Horror)
- Dear Esther (Exploration/Story)
- HAWKEN (Action/Mecha)
- Sanctum 1 & 2 (Tower Defence/Shooter)
- Tabletop Simulator (Sandbox/Tabletop/Board Games)
- VVVVVV (Platformer)
- Killing Floor (Survival/Horror/Shooter)
- Saints Row 2/3/4 (Sandbox/Action)
On PS3 I have Folklore (Action/Story) and Demon's Souls (Action/RPG).
On 360 I have a few favourites such as Naruto: Rise of a Ninja/Naruto: The Broken Bond (Fighting/RPG), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Metroidvania/RPG), Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Action).
I often play Minecraft modpacks with a few friends using the FeedTheBeast and TechnicPack Launchers (cause let's be honest, vanilla Minecraft is pretty boring). I recently got told I should check out a game called "Five Nights at Freddy's" which is a horror game.
If you'd like to try an oldschool game book of sorts to play, there's the Fabled Lands -- I used to have one of the books when I was younger, but the community of the FLApp (http://flapp.sourceforge.net/) (Fabled Lands App) made a version you can play on PC (and possibly tablet, I don't know about that).
And if you're into MMOs, there's Aion, Star Wars Galaxies*, Star Wars: The Old Republic, PokeMMO (Pokemon MMO game).
* - Galaxies is only available using third-party servers now, as it shut down years ago
I was going to try and suggest a few, but I can't gauge what would be a good suggestion based on person alone, so I figure I'll run the gamut by showing most of the games I like. The only games I would advise you be careful about are Alone in the Dark (still includes SecuROM in 2014), Deus Ex: Invisible War (only works on Windows XP), and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (has massive bugs associated with it that never got patched because the developer went out of business).
Anyway, yeah.

So I tried this game, and I have to say "NOPE." I can't play this game beyond the first night, it's too much for me. Freaky as hell.
Picked this up and when I play, I rarely get on track with the mission at hand since I get caught up in so many other transgressions lol

Haha, I had that problem for weeks lol. Finally had to tell myself to stop with all the other side stuff so that I could focus on the actual story.

My son got the PS4 bundle of this for Xmas. I will sit down and play it some. Weird saying my son got it now. He is 15, time flies
So in between mission runs, I find that I like to take Trevor, shoot a cop and see if I can get away in the redneck wasteland that is his original hangout.
I discovered one road headed for the water, ends and fancies itself a ramp into said body of water.
As I was running, I braked, still going over the ramp but it allowed me to fall short of the water, u turn and head back the way I came.
As I did, I see cop cars flying overhead into the water, others stopping short and crashing into each other then going overboard, and even a brief few seconds where I pass by another couple of cop cars heading the opposite way to the ramp as Im on my way to freedom in classic keystone fashion.
If only I had thought to record or capture that or whatever the hell it is you do to save video.
I need to look into that...

If you're playing on PC,there's Open Broadcast Software (OBS for short), which is basically a free (and better) version of XSplit which is one of the most widely used pieces of recording software out there. It supports both local recording and streaming (including simultaneously), and when I started making Youtube videos I was pretty impressed with how small it would make videos (not all videos are equally small, though, like Nintendo games I can record for hours and stay under 1gb, but a game like The Forest was 3gb for less than 2 hours of gameplay).
If you're playing on a console, however, there are hardware solutions you can get which will also record your gameplay, which means no slowdown of the PS3, because all the recording is done by a standalone computer.
Im not talking about using any external devices, I have zero desire for that, Im just talking about within game clips that are saved and shared

Alright, yeah, OBS then.
On a slightly unrelated note, someone showed me a video recently of people playing at the playground. Definitely one of those "record and show everyone" things! Rockstar unfortunately patched the bug/glitch/exploit, but the moment I saw the swing set send a car airborne for the first time, I couldn't help but laugh. I always miss out on the funny gitches. :D
I need to play this, still havent yet
I just finally started it. Haven't really done much of anything yet, but no issues so far. Flying a blimp was fun.
The only thing I cannot do is fly a helicopter, oh my gawd! It just seems impossible to me and those time trials, holy crap.
And this is where I have a bit of an issue and I don't know why games are like this; its kinda like that shoot someone right outside the door and the guy on the other side can't hear it because you haven't tripped his "zone" yet; but theres a point where you have to land the helicopter at Trevor's deserted helipad, absolutely nothing around for miles, but you have to land on this one teeny tiny little dot or nothing happens. I sat there like a fool with the helicopter on the ground just inching forward without trying to lift off because Id never get this close again lol
I checked my stats the other day and Im 60% through the game which kinda surprised me a bit, but then Ive logged a crap ton of hours on this thing just doodling around. I got the fifty stunt jumps in and have pretty much fooled around as much as I want, so now I am starting to focus a little more on the mission, although I just spent thirty minutes playing tennis lol
So I've been playing this on Steam for like 3 or 4 days now, it's pretty good. I mean it's like most GTA games, there's not a whole lot there if you do the missions, it's all about the freeroam and the what not. I pretty much play GTAO exclusively, cause if you're going to do silly crap, you might as well let other people see you doing it.
Game is very easy to meta game and raise a perfectly maxed out character in a single day (so far as stats go, anyway). Only complaints might be that you can't buy your own air strip, boat house, or yacht. Everything is tiny and costs way too friggin much for what it's worth. Old 1970s and 1980s vehicles selling for the same price as you'd pay for a brand new car made in 2015... I really hate when video games do that crap, at least in Final Fantasy it was understandable -- the "G" or Gil monetary unit was based on the Yen. But here, there's no excuse for this, unless someone managed to hyper inflate the economy -- but if that's the case, why are chocolate bars only $1, $2, and $3?
Game favors shark cards a bit too much, adding in vehicles that you can only acquire by purchasing on the internet, and then making them cost more than the in-game housing. Overall pretty solid though, having fun playing with friends.

Yeah, but you can only use those mods in SP. If you use mods in GTAO, then you'll get banned by Rockstar.
I know. Just passing it along. I haven't played online yet.
Today we were looking for the shark in the ocean, when my friend blew up a guy on a jet ski (I reprimanded him for doing so, cause it was rather senseless). Then all of the sudden a friggin UFO appears out of nowhere. I managed to get a screenshot of it before it submerged, but on the top of it was the FIB logo. Later on we found another UFO (or the same one, either way) submerged just beside the pier on the beach, and I took more extensive screenshots of it.
Eventually we found out that it was a player on the server using hacks and mods to mess around with the game, and we were rather disappointed. I mean the UFO *IS* part of the game, but it isn't meant to be underwater, and it was a poor way to discover its existence.
